Denver City and County Building

City and County building takes the position frontal to the Civic Center Park, aligned with the primary axes of both park and the Colorado State Capitol.

This grand, Neo-classical building marks the end of the City Beautiful movement in Denver. Designed in Beaux Arts style, the building features two symmetrical curved wings with Ionic order columns embracing a classical front yard plaza and an ambitiously conceived access. At the central point of the front yard, the monumental staircase leads up to the large Corinthian order temple portico, giving prominence to the entrance with the ascend to the higher order. The two laterally positioned octagonal inner courtyards had to be opened to provide light to the massive building.

The granite clad structure culminates with a tholos shaped tower carrying a carillon clock and a golden eagle, symbol of strength, leadership and vision.
